Memorial Day honors the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation. Behind every name is a life of purpose, a family forever changed, and a story of courage and devotion that deserves to be remembered.
Participants in the ceremony will include Mayor Javier Villalobos and the McAllen City Commission, the McAllen Fire Department Honor Guard and Pipe & Drum Corps, the McAllen Police Department Honor Guard, Parks & Recreation, the Veterans War Memorial Committee, and the Texas National Guard.
The program will include a flag-raising ceremony featuring Desiree Tellez and Raquel Tellez, joined by 8th grade students from Sharyland North Junior High.
Featured speakers for the ceremony will include:
- Mayor Pro Tem and Commissioner Victor “Seby” Haddad, District 5
- Jesse Rodriguez, Veterans War Memorial Committee Member
- Jan Hartzog, Veterans War Memorial Committee Member
- Thomas, Jacob, and Lily Patino, Nikki Rowe High School students
- Cheyanne Zink, Honorary Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Rio Grande Registrar
Community members are invited to attend and join in paying tribute to the service members who gave their lives in defense of the United States.
