McAllen residents in District 5 are scheduled to vote on Saturday, May 2, 2026, following several days of early voting. The election will determine who will serve the remainder of Mayor Pro Tem Seby Haddad’s term after his decision to run for state representative.

Early voting totals show a cumulative total of 162 after the first two days, increasing to 255 on April 22, 340 on April 23, 438 on April 24, 541 on April 25, and 649 by April 27. The final early voting total reported on April 28 reached 828 votes. With 69 mail-in ballots included, the overall total stands at 897 votes cast before election day.

The candidates on the ballot are Felida Villarreal, Mark Murray, and Michael Fallek. Each is seeking to fill the District 5 commissioner seat for the unexpired term.

McAllen operates under a commission form of government, with elected commissioners representing geographic districts across the city. District 5 is one of six districts and includes residential neighborhoods, local businesses, and community spaces. The elected commissioner represents the district while participating in decisions that affect citywide services such as infrastructure, public safety, and development.

Local officials have identified May 2 as the official election day for voters who did not participate during early voting. Eligible residents in District 5 are expected to cast their ballots at designated polling locations within the city.

Elections at the municipal level determine representation on the city commission, which oversees local governance, policy decisions, and public services. The outcome of this election will decide who represents District 5 in those matters for the remainder of the term.
