Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño officially announced Friday, July 3, 2026, that he is seeking reelection, saying he wants to continue the work his administration has started on infrastructure, public safety, healthcare, and economic development. Speaking before supporters at his south Laredo medical clinic, Treviño said his decision to seek a second term is rooted in nearly four decades of serving the community as a physician and public health official.

First elected in 2022, Treviño said his administration has focused on long-term planning, fiscal responsibility, and collaboration. During his first State of the City address earlier this year, he described that approach as the “Laredo Formula,” saying, “We are defined by how we work together, how we solve problems, and how we move our city forward. That is the Laredo Formula.”

During his campaign announcement, Treviño cited several accomplishments from his first term, including approximately $119 million invested in water infrastructure, efforts to secure a long-term secondary water source for the city, progress toward establishing a pediatric hospital, and the approval of two presidential permits supporting international bridge expansion and future growth at the Port of Laredo.

Those priorities align with initiatives outlined in his State of the City address, in which he reported adopting a $1.10 billion city budget while maintaining a property tax reduction, continuing a streak of more than two decades without a property tax increase. He also pointed to investments in infrastructure, public safety, and public health as part of the city’s long-term development strategy.

Treviño said his administration has invested in public safety through new technology, including gunshot detection, automated crash detection, and expanded digital reporting systems. During his reelection announcement, he also referenced improvements in government transparency, including changes to the city manager selection process.

Healthcare remained a central theme in both addresses. In his State of the City speech, Treviño discussed efforts to expand preventive healthcare, improve air-quality monitoring, and strengthen public health initiatives. At his campaign announcement, he said he remains committed to expanding access to healthcare while continuing work on public safety and economic opportunities for future generations.

Treviño said leadership means remaining committed to solving the community’s biggest challenges. He also acknowledged that voters will have multiple choices in November’s municipal election and welcomed the competition, saying democracy is stronger when residents have options.

Saying his administration’s work is not yet complete, Treviño pledged to continue serving the people of Laredo if elected to a second term.
