EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramón is urging voters to be on the lookout for their new, blue and white voter registration certificate that was mailed this week.  She asks that each voter review the information on the certificate to check that everything is correct and up to date because redistricting of the voting precincts took place this past year, and some jurisdictions changed due to the redrawing of state and local boundary lines.

“These certificates have the voter’s updated voting information which includes the voting precinct in which they reside,” said Ramón. “This voting precinct identifies all jurisdictions in which the voter votes and will include any changes that may have taken place due to redistricting.”

The Elections Department mailed out over 382,000 voter registration certificates to registered voters in Hidalgo County.  The new registration cards are to be used in all upcoming elections through December 31, 2023.

“Although voters are only required to present an eligible photo identification when voting, using their voter registration certificate along with their acceptable form of identification assures a smooth and quick voting experience at the polls,” said Ramón.

Residents who do not receive their certificate in the mail by Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, are urged to contact the Elections Department at 956.318.2570.  Voters can stop by the Elections Office at 213 S. Closner Blvd., in Edinburg, or they can make the change on the back, bottom left side of the certificate, sign the bottom right side of the card and drop in the mail.

If you receive a voter certificate of a voter who no longer resides at the current address, has moved or is deceased, the Elections Department is asking for the public’s help in returning these certificates to the Elections Office so that all records may be updated.  Use the back side of the certificate to offer an explanation and either walk into the office or drop in the mail.

Remember that to be eligible to vote in the upcoming 2022 Primary, the deadline to register to vote and/or make any updates or changes to your voter registration card is Monday, Jan. 31, 2022. Visit our Elections Department Website at www.hidalgocounty.us/elections for updates and election information.
