PHARR, Texas – A collaboration between Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA), United Migrant Opportunities Services Migrant Seasonal Head Start Program (UMOS/MSHS) is set to increase school readiness for migrant children in the area.

A meeting between the organizations was held Feb. 16 to continue to promote a smooth and effective service delivery for young children in migrant families.

“Through this partnership, PSJA works alongside both migrant agencies to increase quality of programming and instruction with our end goal being kinder readiness,” said Maricela Cortez, PSJA ISD Early Childhood Department Director.

PSJA ISD’s highly qualified teachers help instruct students in the migrant programs through comprehensive research-based age-appropriate curriculum for over 3 hours a day. The curriculum includes social and emotional lessons, STEAM projects, and usage of technology as a learning model to facilitate the students’ diverse learning styles.

“Cross-functional systems, like UMOS/MSHS, help us to break barriers, bring children of all ages into safe learning environments and increase educational attainment in our community,” said PSJA Chief of Academics Dr. Rudy Treviño.
