PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD had 86 students named candidates for Associate Degrees and Industry Certificates for South Texas College’s (STC) 2020 Fall Virtual Commencement Ceremony held Friday, Dec. 12, 2020.

“Congratulations to our students for such tremendous accomplishments. We commend them for continuing their commitment to their education despite these challenging times,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “Thank you to our higher education partner South Texas College for working with us to offer these life-changing opportunities.”

Candidates from PSJA ISD’s Early College Program earned Associate Degrees and received industry certificates in various fields including Biology, Criminal Justice, Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering, and Interdisciplinary Studies, to name a few.

As a tri-city public school district offering a pre-kindergarten through 12th grade curriculum, PSJA caters to a 32,000-student body and is focused on preparing all students to succeed in today’s global society.

Through partnerships with South Texas College and other higher education leaders, more than 3,500 PSJA ISD high school students are enrolled in college courses each semester through the district’s nationally recognized Early College Program. Despite the pandemic, college courses continued virtually for all students.

“At PSJA ISD we take pride in providing life-changing opportunities for our students,” said PSJA Chief of Academics Rudy Treviño. “Completing an Associate Degree a semester before their High School diploma is a great jumpstart for their education and will save them time and money as they continue pursuing a post-secondary education.”
