EDINBURG, Texas – After months of intensive training, the first class of eight cadets from the newly established Edinburg Police Department Police Academy will graduate on February 20, 2026, marking a historic milestone for the department. The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in the Edinburg City Council Chambers, where cadets will be honored for their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to serving the community. The Keynote Address will be delivered by Greg Stevens, Executive Director of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.

These eight future peace officers began their journey in mid-July 2025, embarking on a rigorous and comprehensive training program led by Edinburg’s certified instructors. Over the past several months, cadets completed demanding coursework and hands-on instruction in patrol procedures, crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, criminal law, physical fitness, emergency response, and community-oriented policing. Their training also included scenario-based exercises and real-world simulations designed to prepare them for the responsibilities of modern policing.

“This inaugural class represents the heart of what we envisioned—recruits who are motivated, disciplined, and dedicated to serving with integrity,” said Police Chief Jaime Ayala. “They have worked tirelessly for months, pushing through challenges and upholding the values we expect from Edinburg officers. We are incredibly proud to celebrate their achievements.”
