Edinburg, TEXAS – During a special City Council meeting Thursday afternoon, the Edinburg City Council approved amending the city’s emergency order once again to help mitigate the increasing numbers.

Effective Monday, July 20, 2020, all businesses in Edinburg must operate at no more than 50% capacity.

“You see the numbers climbing daily. This is very real and it’s impacting the health of our community,” said Mayor Richard Molina. “We can’t wait for the State to step in to take action. We are taking action to protect the people of Edinburg right now.”

“I implore our residents to stay safe by wearing a mask and continue to follow all the recommended guidelines,” said Councilmember Jorge Salinas. “We are responsible for our own health. Stay home and Work Safe.”

“I support the decision of my colleagues, but we need to work on this as a region,” said Council Member David White. “If our surrounding cities don’t unite and follow stricter guidelines together, we won’t be able to beat this virus.”

“After receiving our daily reports from the County, we felt as leaders of our city, it was necessary to take action to protect our citizens,” said Councilmember Johnny Garcia. “Limiting occupancy to 50% at every business and organization facility in Edinburg will help flatten the curve.”

Local businesses have until Monday, July 20 at 12:01 am to comply with the amended order. This limitation does not apply to medical facilities, nursing homes, and child and adult daycares.
