RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – A convicted sex offender assaults a Border Patrol Agent in the brush.

Yesterday afternoon, Rio Grande City agents working near the river encountered five subjects after they illegally entered the United States. A K9 handler identified himself as a Border Patrol Agent when one of the subjects, later identified as Jacob SOLIS-MARTINEZ, became assaultive towards the agent. The 43-year-old El Salvadoran man continued to resist arrest and threw several punches at the agent. Ultimately, the agent had to release his K9 in order to subdue the subject. The struggle continued until more agents arrived on the scene and successfully arrested the subject. The agents did not suffer any injuries.

Records checks on SOLIS-MARTINEZ revealed a previous arrest in Arapahoe County, Colorado in 2001 for Sexual Assault. SOLIS-MARTINEZ was convicted in 2003 for Sexual Assault and was sentenced to 90 days confinement.

SOLIS-MARTINEZ was processed accordingly.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
