McAllen, TX (November 13, 2017) – South Texas College is inviting the public to join staff and faculty for informal sessions that will enable them to learn about exciting course opportunities available for adults and the community.
The College Connections Department has collaborated with Precinct 2 and Precinct 4 in Hidalgo County to host “Coffee Talk” sessions with parents and the community at local community centers.
Continuing Education will be offering free basic computer skills course and a showcase of their programs. Enrollment staff will be available to help students and parents complete the FAFSA or Apply for Admissions.
The first Coffee Talk event will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Endowment Center located at 107 N. Sunflower Rd in San Carlos.
The second meeting will take place on Tuesday Nov. 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the P2 Alamo community Resource Center located at 1429 S. Tower Road in Alamo.
“This is a college night for the community,” said Larry Barroso, Director of College Connections and Admissions for Traditional Students. “Our objective is to go into the community and provide those services that we offer at the high schools, but closer to parents and students.
“We will be helping students with their financial aid applications, and since we know it can be hard for the parents to go to the high schools to our events, we want to be able to as close as possible to them,” Barroso said.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early for a free course. Basic computer skills will be taught from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Limited seating is available. For more information call 1-855-468-6782 or email Larry Barroso at Lbarroso@southtexascollege.edu.
