McALLEN, Texas — Quinta Mazatlán invites families to experience the sights and sounds of summer tonight during Chicharras Live, a one-of-a-kind evening celebrating the return of the cicadas, also known locally as chicharras.
The event will take place tonight from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Quinta Mazatlán, located at 600 Sunset Drive in McAllen. Admission is $5 for adults and children, and children ages 2 and under are admitted free.
After years underground, cicadas have emerged across the Rio Grande Valley, filling the forest with their unmistakable summer chorus. Chicharras Live invites guests to connect with nature, explore the outdoors and enjoy an evening filled with live music, education, crafts, food and the incredible sounds of cicadas in their natural habitat.
Guests can look forward to live performances by Valley Sereno Strings, the rhythmic sounds of cicadas throughout the woods, a Story Book in the Woods featuring Cicada Symphony, educational booths, hands-on crafts, drinks and food booths.
Chicharras Live is designed for all ages and highlights the role cicadas play in the seasonal rhythm of South Texas. Families are encouraged to come ready to listen, learn and enjoy a summer evening outdoors at Quinta Mazatlán.
