Brownsville, Texas – The Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) announces today that classes will be cancelled for the remainder of the week due to the inclement weather and power outages, which continue to impact BISD campuses and facilities for distance learning.
“In an effort to keep BISD students, faculty, and staff safe during this inclement weather, we will cancel classes for the remainder of the week,” said Dr. René Gutiérrez, superintendent of schools of Brownsville Independent School District. “Upon the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) approval, the district will request a waiver to not make-up the cancellation of the two instructional days. Parents have the option of face-to-face or virtual instruction when classes resume on Monday, February 22, 2021.”
This Friday, February 19, 2021, is the end of the fourth six weeks and administration will be flexible with all deadlines including end of the six week grades and report cards.
Meal distribution and COVID-19 Rapid Testing will be cancelled for this week. COVID-19 Rapid Testing will resume on Monday, February 22, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. In addition, meal distribution will continue as scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Administration will continue to monitor the weather forecast for this weekend,” addedGutiérrez. “Continue to check the district’s website and social media for any further updates based on information we may receive from local and state agencies.
