McALLEN, Texas — As the fireworks fade and Independence Day celebrations come to an end, one Rio GrandeValley author is inviting the community to consider a different kind of freedom—the freedom that cannot be declared by a nation, but must be reclaimed within ourselves.
On Saturday, July 11, from 2:00–4:00 p.m., the community is invited to meet two-time bestselling author Giselle Mascarenhas during a special book signing at Barnes & Noble North Cross in McAllen.
Her newest book, She Forgot She Was Free, is a powerful invitation for readers to break free from fear, shame, people-pleasing, perfectionism, limiting beliefs, and the expectations that often keep them from becoming who they were created to be.
“Every July, we celebrate the freedoms won for a nation,” said Mascarenhas. “But many people are quietly living in emotional, mental, and spiritual captivity. My hope is that this book reminds readers that freedom is not only something we celebrate, it is something we can live.”
The event comes just days after Independence Day, making its message especially timely. While communities acrossAmerica celebrated liberty, She Forgot She Was Free asks readers one profound question:
What if the greatest independence you’ll ever experience is the freedom to become yourself?
The book has already resonated with readers seeking healing, identity, and purpose, earning Mascarenhas recognition as a two-time Amazon bestselling author.
The event also celebrates local entrepreneurship and the growing literary movement emerging from the Rio Grande Valley. She Forgot She Was Free was published by Mija Media House, a homegrown Rio Grande Valley publishing company dedicated to helping purpose-driven authors transform their stories into books that create lasting impact.
“Our region is filled with remarkable voices,” said publisher Eliza Garza of Mija Media House. “Seeing another localauthor launch a transformational message through a national retailer like Barnes & Noble shows that world-changing stories are being written right here in the Rio Grande Valley.”
Community members will have the opportunity to meet the author, have books personally signed, take photos, and learn more about the inspiration behind the book.
