The Computer and Advanced Technologies Program at South Texas College offers a wide range of courses that focus on more than one operating system, and this is where Virtual Machine technology is ideal. Available for decades on very large computers called mainframes, VM applications have been available on ordinary computers since 2005 when computer chip manufacturers Intel and AMD provided additional hardware assistance to their microprocessors in support of virtualization.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine celebrated the grand opening of its Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) on Thursday, Sept. 20, in the La Victoria community in Starr County. The UTRGV School of Medicine received a five-year, $3.75 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration to develop the three AHECs, which will offer free healthcare to residents and educational opportunities for students enrolled in UTRGV’s health professions programs.
