Texas 175th Anniversary of Statehood (1845): December 29, 2020

Texas was originally part of Mexico, achieving independence as the Republic of Texas in 1836. The United States acquired the area of Texas through annexation and Texas was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1845, as the 28th state. At the time of statehood, Texas included part of present-day Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.

Driscoll begins vaccinating against COVID-19

On Wednesday, Jaime Fergie, MD, Director of Infectious Diseases at Driscoll Children’s Hospital, was the first staff member at Driscoll Children’s Hospital to receive the Moderna COVID-19 vaccination. Administering the vaccine is Driscoll Children’s Hospital staff member Susan Carroll, RN. Driscoll received 1,000 of the vaccines Wednesday. This round is only for clinical staff, but it eventually will be available to all Driscoll Health System employees.
