Deaths associated with opioid overdose have skyrocketed across the country in the last decade.

In response, City of McAllen Mayor Jim Darling and Cris Rivera, Chief Executive Officer at Rio Grande Regional Hospital will announce a joint collaboration effort to educate the community and increase awareness of the dangers associated to the growing misuse and addiction to prescription pain medications.

The citywide and hospital efforts, in conjunction with the McAllen Police Department, will hold a Crush the Crisis – Opioid Take Back Day on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, from 9 am to 1 pm.  Individuals can turn in tablets, capsules and patches of Codeine, Hydrocodone, Demerol, Oxycodone, Darvon and other opioids with a strict ‘NO Questions Asked’ policy in place at Rio Grande Regional Hospital’s main entrance located at 101. E. Ridge Road in McAllen.
