The Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Barbara Jean Garza as the new President and CEO.

Barbara joins the Chamber with over 10 years of experience with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where she served as the Director of P-16 Outreach, dedicated to supporting students in early education and creating a bridge to and through college. In 2018, Barbara was one of 30 individuals across The University of Texas System (which encompasses all 14 UT institutions) to be recognized with the Inaugural Regents Outstanding Employee Awards, which recognizes employees with outstanding dedication and performance. In addition, she has received several recognitions for her commitment and service to the community.

“Weslaco is a dynamic growing city and I am honored to be selected to serve in this role to help positively impact the chamber and growth of this area”, said Garza. “I look forward to the opportunity to support our membership and community at large by building and strengthening partnerships via collaborations with businesses and organizations.  I am excited and passionate about serving others and giving back to a community that I grew up in.”

Garza has held numerous roles in local and state organizations including local leadership teams and advisory board roles.  She received a Master’s of Science in Organizational Leadership from Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Education in Educational Technology from UTRGV.

The Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes Barbara Jean Garza and looks forward to the future ahead under her leadership.
