McAllen, Texas – BBVA presented a $5,000 donation to the South Texas College Valley Scholars Program as a Diamond Sponsor for the 14th Annual “A Night with the Stars” Gala. The annual fundraiser will be held on October 10, 2019, and net proceeds from the event benefit Valley Scholars Program scholarships.
BBVA Senior Vice President and Deposit Relationship Manager, Gina Lobato, and BBVA Vice President and Community Relations Officer for the Texas Border Region, Robert Rosell, formally presented the donation to South Texas College at the Board of Trustees regular meeting on July 23.
“BBVA is a very proud and longtime supporter of the college,” Lobato said. “BBVA will continue to donate to Valley Scholars, and we look forward to the annual event in October.”
“We appreciate the generous support BBVA has provided to our program for many years,” said Jessica S. Garcia, Academic Excellence Programs Officer at STC. “We are very thankful for their continued support and look forward to celebrating the generosity of our sponsors at our annual “A Night with the Stars” Gala.”
The Valley Scholars Program was established in 1997 to recognize and promote academic excellence. The Program provides financial assistance, academic support services, mentoring, and leadership development to academically gifted and highly motivated students from Hidalgo and Starr County. Support from local businesses and corporate sponsors enables the Valley Scholars Program to provide up to $2,000 in scholarship funds for Valley Scholars students pursuing an associate degree at South Texas College.
