Meeting Lucinda S. Leyva is a privilege to anyone that loves business. She has succeeded in a business field that requires special attention from every aspect.  When Texas Border Business met with her, I found her to have a strong will and belief in herself, now more than ever.

When she came into the business, her late husband asked her to help run the cosmetology school that they had acquired in 1976. “I was thrown into this business,” but, she accepted the challenge. Many years and a ton of hard work have gone by, however, today she feels rewarded. In this issue, meet our featured Exclusive and learn more about Lucinda S. Leyva, President and owner of University of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (UCAS).

On another matter, First Lady Laura Bush is being honored with the “Outstanding Citizens Award for Promotion of Literacy” for her continued dedication and outreach across Texas and the world in promoting education, with a heavy emphasis on reading and writing.

Simon, a leading global retail real estate company, is pleased to announce that Eddie Morin has been hired as the Director of Operations at La Plaza Mall in McAllen, Texas. Morin will oversee all day-to-day operations, maintenance, grounds keeping, custodial and contracted services.

In Cameron County, Texas State Technical College, announces the appointment of Javier De Leon, whose distinguished service has spanned three decades, to its Government Affairs Division.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has announced the hiring of Rick Anderson as executive vice president for Finance and Administration. Anderson, who currently serves as vice president for Administration and treasurer at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, will replace Martin Baylor, who announced his retirement in April.
