Pedro Garcia a long time RGV Theater Director/Actor who was recently seen in a couple of the final episodes of Breaking Bad will present his one-man, one-act children’s/family play, The Life & Times of Juanito Gonzalez, on Saturday, October, 26 in Pharr.
Written nearly 17 years ago this play has performed every year in the months of October and November at schools, museums, libraries and art centers throughout the entire southwest United States. The play is set on Dia De Los Muertos/The Day of The Dead in honor of all our past loved ones. The story is about a common man named Juanito Gonzalez, from the RGV, who lived to be one hundred years old and who lived a good life based on his quest for knowledge/college. He liked to rhyme, dime. The play follows Juanito from his childhood days all through his last days on this earth. “It’s not scary at all” say Garcia who also wrote and directed the play. “It has a lot of comedy and very touching moments. Juanito is a wonderful person who teaches us about the good things in life, of course, illustrating the hardships as well, but overall the message is ‘do your best you can to get a good education and to live your life’. Out of all the characters I’ve played, Juanito Gonzalez is my favorite. To me, he’s sacred”, added Garcia.
Performances will be held at the Carnahan Auditorium at 317 W Gore Street in Pharr on October 26 at 3 p.m. and at 7 p.m. (two shows) The play is suitable for elementary grades and for all others including adults of all ages.
