Southwest Airlines adds more capacity at Valley International Airport

Effective March 10, 2022, Southwest Airlines plans to offer more flights from Valley International Airport in Harlingen, Texas.  Two nonstops between Austin and Harlingen, will offer same day roundtrip opportunity for our customers.


The new flights will operate daily except Saturdays. The flight times are:

Austin to Harlingen           Harlingen to Austin

9:15 am – 10:20 am           10:55 am – 12:00 pm

4:00 pm –   5:05 pm             5:40 pm –   6:45 pm


Southwest Airlines will also operate a daily nonstop between Dallas/Love and Harlingen. The flight times are:

Dallas to Harlingen                Harlingen to Dallas

9:45 am – 11:15 am               11:50 am – 1:20 pm

In addition, the carrier plans to operate 4 daily flights between Houston/Hobby and Harlingen daily except on Saturdays when they will operate 3 flights.  The times are:


Houston to Harlingen          Harlingen to Houston

8:25 am – 9:30 am                  6:15 am – 7:25 am

1:15 pm – 2:20 pm                10:00 am – 11:00 am

6:45 pm – 7:45 pm                 2:55 pm  –  4:05 pm

10:45 pm – 11:45 pm               8:15 pm – 9:15 pm


According to CIRIUM, an airline passenger data base service, the monthly number of Southwest Airlines outbound seats for March 2022 shows 26,156 seats versus 11,901 seats for March 2021, or a 120% increase in monthly seat capacity. “These new flights will offer even greater connecting opportunities for our RGV residents since Southwest Airlines will operate over 13,000 monthly flights starting March 2022, from Dallas, Houston and Austin, combined. In addition, our air cargo customers will benefit as well with more belly cargo space with the additional flights”, stated José A. Mulet, director of air service development at Valley International Airport. The flights will be operated using the Boeing 737-700 aircraft at 143 seats. The new flights are currently available for sale at southwest.com.
