Smugglers Continue to Put Illegal Aliens Lives at Risk

EDINBURG, Texas – Border Patrol agents continue to rescue lost illegal aliens throughout South Texas.

On Sunday, Kingsville agents patrolling along U.S. Highway 77 near Riviera, Texas, encountered a distressed man on the side of the road. Agents assisted the man and determined he was illegally present in the United States. He stated he was abandoned by his smugglers while attempting to circumvent the Javier Vega Jr Checkpoint. As agents administered basic medical attention, the man began to display signs of severe dehydration.  Agents requested Emergency Medical Services to transport the man to a local hospital for further treatment.

On Tuesday, the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Falfurrias Border Patrol Station regarding a 911 call from a Mexican national who was lost somewhere in the county ranchlands. Agent responded to the last known GPS coordinates of the caller. After searching for nearly two hours, agents located the man and provided him with first aid.

Later that day, Falfurrias agents responded to a second call for help after they received information regarding two juveniles who were lost and in need of help. Agents began their search at the last known location. After nearly an hour of searching, agents located both juveniles who were found in good health. Agents provided them with basic medical attention and transported them to the Falfurrias Station.  

This morning, Penitas Police Department contacted the McAllen station after they received a 911 call from a lost Honduran national. The man stated he became disoriented after crossing the Rio Grande and could not navigate through the thick brush. The Penitas Police Department provided agents with the last known GPS coordinates of the caller, and a search ensued. After a lengthy search of the area, agents located the man. Agents provided the man with basic medical attention and transported him to the station. 

The Rio Grande Valley Sector currently has multiple campaigns focused on rescues and danger awareness, such as “Operation Big Rig” and “No Se Arriesgue” to combat smuggling and ultimately save lives. Call 911 to report suspicious activity; “They’re humans, not cargo!”
