EDINBURG, Texas – On Tuesday, Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens with prior convictions for sexual offenses.

Yesterday morning, Border Patrol agents conducting a traffic stop north of Linn, Texas, encountered four subjects who were later determined to be illegally present in the United States. During processing, records checks revealed that one of the subjects later identified as Eddy Renato Arana-Tale, a Guatemalan Citizen, was a convicted sex offender. On January 7, 2002, Arana was arrested by The Huntington Beach Police Department for child molestation. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 3 years probation. In addition to his sex offense conviction, Arana has multiple criminal convictions in the state of California.

Later in the morning, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers requested assistance from Brownsville Border Patrol agents in identifying a subject.  Responding agents identified the individual as Magdaleno Villanueva-Torres, a Mexican citizen illegally present in the United States. Villanueva was transported a Border Patrol station for processing. At the station, criminal record checks revealed an arrest by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office in October 2000 for indecency with a child. Villanueva was convicted in 2001 and sentenced to 12 months.
