EDINBURG, Texas – A regional leader in the Gulf Cartel operating on both sides of the Rio Grande has been apprehended. Jose Alfredo Cardenas Martinez, also known as “El Contador or Sr. Cortez,” was arrested over the weekend by Mexican authorities in San Luis Potosi.
Cardenas is the number 3 target on the Rio Grande Valley’s Se Busca Informacion initiative. This Se Busca Initiative has been responsible for the arrests of six targets in the RGV and one in Laredo.
“Thanks to reporting from the public, and the bi-national sharing of information, we’ve arrested over half of the original 10 RGV targets since we launched the initiative,” said JTF-W STC Commander Rodolfo Karisch. “And we’re in the process of launching an updated list with five new targets.”
