RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s tennis team learned on Friday that the doubles team of sophomores Katarina Sasaroga and Sandra Putz have been named Western Athletic Conference Doubles Team of the Month.
Sasaroga and Putz led the Vaqueros with three victories throughout the month of October. The duo picked up their first doubles win as a team with a 7-6 victory over Louisiana’s Floraine Picaut and Dana Radovanovic at the Ragin’ Cajuns Hidden Dual.
Sasaroga and Putz followed with a big win in the opening round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional as they defeated Texas State’s Andrea Fuchs and Alyssa Zayat 8-6.
The duo then closed out the fall with a 7-5 win over Texas State’s Josefina Cassara and Rishona Lewis at the Bearkat Invitational.
The Vaqueros have wrapped up the fall season and will begin to prepare for the spring dual match season that will get underway January 20 at Abilene Christian.
