RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Monday that junior forward Sean Rhea of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s basketball team is the WAC Player of the Week.
Rhea scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting with eight rebounds to lead UTRGV to an 89-51 victory over Texas A&M International last Monday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Rhea is averaging a team-best 14.5 points on 52.6% shooting, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in six games (five starts).
UTRGV is 5-2 entering Monday’s contest against Sam Houston State, marking the team’s best start since 2006-07. UTRGV is looking to improve to 6-2 for the first time since 1986-87.
UTRGV is on a nine-game home winning streak dating back to Feb. 1. This is UTRGV’s longest home winning streak since Nov. 10, 2006 – Feb. 3, 2007, when the team won 10-straight home games.
