PHARR – Celena Miller, Science Teacher at PSJA ISD’s Cesar Chavez Elementary was surprised today by the H-E-B Excellence in Education Prize Patrol, as a finalist for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award.

As a finalist, she received a $1,000 check for herself and $1,000 for the school. She is now in the running to win the state award of $10,000 for herself, and $10,000 for her school. The recipients of the state award will be announced during a special ceremony held in Austin on May 4-5.
“You have the excitement of the Texas Education Agency giving you six stars, you have the excitement of Washington, DC giving you the National Blue Ribbon and now comes H-E-B…known throughout Texas…recognizing one of your teachers saying you guys are doing a really good job. She is one of the best teachers we have in the State of Texas,” Roel Faz, Principal at Cesar Chavez Elementary said. “Excited for what is happening here at our school.”
This is Miller’s second nomination for an H-E-B award, the first time she was nominated in the Rising Star Category and won the ultimate prize back in 2014.
H-E-B’s Excellence in Education is the largest monetary awards program for educators in Texas, and among the largest in the nation. Congratulations Mrs. Miller!
