Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Filemon Vela (TX-34) released the following statement after President-elect Joe Biden named the Congressman from Texas the Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
“I am honored to have been selected by President-elect Biden to continue the important mission of the DNC to fight for equality and opportunity for all,” said Congressman Vela. “This election saw historic voter turnout, sending a clear message that the American people wanted new leadership and a positive direction for our nation.”
As the country faces multiple crises – a deadly pandemic, an economic recession and a long road to recovery, it’s more important than ever that we have Democratic leadership that represents the diversity of our nation and will work tirelessly to expand our coalition.
Congressman Vela and the other leaders named today are battle-tested leaders who will build on the party’s successes, continue strengthening the Democratic Party infrastructure across the states, and work tirelessly to continue growing the Democratic Party so we can keep securing victories at every level of the ballot.
