PHARR, Texas – The City of Pharr Police Department announced this morning that it seized over $10 Million worth of liquid meth (over 700 gallons).

The discovery and capture were made yesterday, when an officer, who had just finished a call for service, was patrolling the area of South Lamar Drive in Pharr.

The officer observed three (3) male individuals pouring liquid from several 55-gallon barrels into 5-gallon buckets around liquid tanker trailers. The officer’s attention to detail called for further investigation. He called for backup, and when Pharr Fire Department responded to the scene and noticed crystallization forming around the barrels, they tested the liquid and discovered it to be methamphetamine.

Due to the large amount of this seizure, the Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) will take jurisdiction of the case federally. DEA agents were impressed by the officer’s proactiveness.

When everything was said and done, DEA Clan Lab agents estimated 700 gallons (700 gallons is approximately 2,598 kilos @ approximately $3,000 a kilo) of liquid meth inside one (1) of the liquid tanker trailers, eight (8) 55-gallon barrels, and four (4) five-gallon buckets. The street value is estimated to be over $10,000,000.

“This massive drug seizure impacts way beyond our region where it was headed,” said Pharr Chief of Police Andy Harvey. “This stemmed from a patrol officer’s attention to detail when he observed something out of the ordinary and he used our resources to further investigate,” continued Chief Harvey. “This is great policing!” He further added, “I want to thank our federal DEA partners who always respond and work alongside us, they are outstanding.”
