PHARR, Texas – The Pharr Police Department announces the start of the 2026 TxDOT Labor Day Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) Wave, an annual initiative aimed at reducing fatal and serious injury crashes through enhanced traffic enforcement. In collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), officers will increase patrols citywide to remind motorists of the importance of safe and responsible driving.
The enforcement period will run from August 14, 2026, through September 7, 2026, during which the department will focus on effective enforcement and adjudication of traffic safety-related laws. Increased visibility and targeted patrols will help deter dangerous driving behaviors, including driving while intoxicated, speeding, and other violations that contribute to severe crashes.
DWI Consequences:
Driving while intoxicated (DWI) is a serious, preventable offense with costly and potentially deadly outcomes. The Pharr Police Department urges all motorists to take responsibility:
- Designate a sober driver if you plan to drink.
- Use a ride‑sharing service or call for a safe ride.
- Stay in a safe location if you have consumed alcohol and cannot drive.
Safety Tips:
- Plan ahead before drinking.
- Take advantage of public transportation or ride‑sharing options.
- Look out for family and friends, ensure they do not drive while impaired.
The Pharr Police Department and TxDOT remain committed to keeping Pharr’s roadways safe and thank the community for its continued support.
