Pharr, Texas – The City of Pharr held a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the new Pharr Fire Station #4 – this marks the first new fire station to be built in Pharr in nearly 30 years.

The City of Pharr recently expanded their extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) to the southeast part of the city, which includes the areas up to Alamo Road. This fire station will address the needs of South Pharr. Most importantly, it will allow for faster response times – estimated to be between 4-5 minutes.

“As I mentioned in the State of the City address last month, we are breaking ground, we are building up, and we are boosting our economy, our opportunities, and our quality of life,” said Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. “Today, we celebrated a historic moment that is a testament to Pharr’s phenomenal and unprecedented development. With our continued growth – both residential and manufacturing—the demand for community services in South Pharr has increased, especially when looking at the needs of our citizens,” he continued. “This fire station is being built to better serve our South Pharr residents, giving them and local businesses the safety resources necessary to quickly, effectively, and timely respond to emergency situations,” he added.

Once the new station is complete, the city estimates that approximately eight positions will be added to the fire department to man the station. In addition, Pharr will be adding a new Hazardous Material Pumper, the first of its kind in the region, to service this area due to the high number of commercial vehicles that travel on the south side of the city. The safety of Pharr citizens is especially important to City officials, and Fire Station #4 will help to ensure that South Pharr is equipped with the necessary resources, staff, and proximity to keep the community safe.

The Warren Group, under the direction of Architect Laura Warren, designed the fire station and Davila Construction will see the project to fruition.
