Officers Seize over $600K in Methamphetamine

HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge intercepted $627,700 in alleged methamphetamine.

“Drug trafficking organizations continue to work to get harmful narcotics on our streets, but CBP officers are always on the clock, working to thwart smuggling activities all while facilitating legitimate travelers during this holiday season,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On, Dec. 20, 2021, CBP officers assigned to the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered a white Dodge Ram, driven by a male 49-year-old U.S. citizen arriving from Mexico. A CBP officer referred the conveyance for further inspection, which included utilizing non-intrusive imaging (NII) equipment and screening by a (canine team). After physically inspecting the conveyance, officers discovered eight packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 44.84 pounds (20.34 kg) concealed within the vehicle.

CBP OFO arrested the individual, seized the narcotics and vehicle, and the case remains under investigation by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI).
