EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner Ellie Torres and Cardinal Reef residents are excited to announce a celebration for the installation of 11 new streetlights, significantly enhancing safety and visibility within the community.
Initiated by a proactive resident, the advocacy for improved street lights has culminated in the installation of 11 bright streetlights, positively impacting 36 homes in the area.
The celebration event took place on Monday, May 20th at 6:00pm, where residents, Commissioner Ellie Torres and staff gathered to mark this important milestone. The event included a small gathering with the neighbors, refreshments and a ceremonial lighting of the streetlights.
“We are thrilled to see the results of our collective efforts in improving the safety and ambiance of our neighborhoods,” said Mayte Olivia, Cardinal Reef resident who spearheaded the initiative. “These street lights will not only illuminate our roads but also foster a greater sense of security and community among our residents.”
The Hidalgo County Unincorporated Streetlight Program is available to all rural county residents. “If your neighborhood is in need of streetlights you can apply with your prospective precinct,” said Commissioner Ellie Torres. “We have been lighting up the streets in Precinct 4 and will continue to do so for the safety and well being of our residents.”
Deadline to apply to the Hidalgo County Unincorporated Streetlight Program is July 1, 2024.
