Edinburg, Texas – After an extensive search and a lengthy background and interview process, City Manager Ramiro Garza Jr. has made a selection for the top law enforcement position in the City. Garza announces and welcomes David Edward White as the new Edinburg Police Chief.

White, a Lieutenant, has been with the Edinburg Police Department for 25 years.  He currently oversees the Patrol Division.

He began his career in 1991 as a patrolman.  In 1994 Lt. White

was promoted to Corporal assigned to the Patrol Division.  He became a Sergeant in 1996 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 2009.

Mr. White has more than 4000 hours of training in traffic law, management, hostage negotiations, cybercrimes, sex crimes, firearms, asset forfeiture, identity theft, crime scene investigation, hazardous materials, interview and interrogation techniques, arrest search and seizure, child abuse and SWAT.

Additionally, he holds a Master Peace Officer’s License and a TCLEOSE Instructor License.  He is also a Breath Test Operator, a Mental Health Officer, Advanced Hostage Negotiator and is certified as an Animal Control Officer and in Euthanasia.

White attained a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from The University of Texas Pan American in 2002.  He also attended the Sam Houston State University, Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Institute of Texas, Command Staff Leadership Series in 2013 and the Southwestern Law Enforcement Police Supervisors Course in 2000.

He will be sworn in on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 during a special ceremony at Edinburg City Hall at 10:30 a.m.  He replaces Rolando Castaneda who retired on July 31.

White takes over a department with an authorized strength of 143 officers–118 police officers, 17 Sergeants, six Lieutenants, and two Assistant Chiefs.
