EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector agents arrested three gang members and one sexual offender, all from El Salvador.

On Dec. 8, McAllen Border Patrol Station (MCS) agents encountered a national of El Salvador, whose record checks revealed he is a Mara-Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang member. The 34-year-old Salvadoran was previously sentenced by a Georgia court to 18 months’ incarceration for conspiracy to distribute cocaine in 2011. He was also sentenced to 46 months’ confinement for immigration related offenses and subsequently removed from the United States.

That evening, MCS agents conducting processing duties identified a Salvadoran national whose record checks revealed his affiliation to the Sureño gang. In 2008, he was sentenced to six months confinement for inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant in California. Three years later, he was arrested again and sentenced to two years’ incarceration for the same charge, in addition to three years in prison for assault with a deadly weapon that causes great bodily injury.

On Dec. 9, MCS agents apprehended a group of five migrants near Hidalgo. Record checks on a Salvadoran national revealed he was charged in El Salvador with sexual assault of a minor in 2013. Later that evening, agents encountered another MS-13, who had been sentenced to 185 days incarceration, in 2019, for being in the U.S. after being previously deported.

Within a week’s span, RGV agents have encountered nine significant arrests throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

All subjects were processed accordingly.
