Mission, Texas- The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees has passed a resolution requesting Texas Governor Greg Abbott include public school district personnel in official definitions of frontline workers for COVID-19 vaccination allotments.
The board approved the resolution unanimously during a special meeting held Thursday, December 10.
“Governor Abbott and other government officials have repeatedly stated the importance of schools and their role during the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery process,” said Dr. Carol G. Perez. “Due to the essential role school district employees play in the day-to-day operations of a district and the fact that they are also critical to the resumption of live, face-to-face instruction or in-person virtual instruction, it is only right that they also be among the individuals identified as frontline workers as defined by the Expert Vaccine Allocation Panel that has been providing recommendations to the Texas Commissioner of Health.”
Dr. Perez also said she was grateful for the strong support shown by the Mission CISD Board of Trustees throughout the district’s response to COVID-19. “They truly have made every effort to support students and staff as much as possible throughout the pandemic and have allowed us to do what is needed to continue with instruction during the most challenging time of the district’s history.”
The resolution approved by the Board of Trustees not only requests the action by the Governor, but also states support of efforts by State Board of Education member, District 2, Ruben Cortez, Jr. and his request to the Governor.
