South Padre Island, Texas– The South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has promoted former Business Development Director Mike Flores to the new position of Director of Marketing Research and Analytics.
Flores joined the Bureau 3 years ago with an outstanding academic record, culminating in an MBA from the University of Texas-Pan American, now University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He also achieved a distinguished military background in the United States Army, where he served as a 1st Lieutenant and completed a tour in Afghanistan. Flores was awarded a Bronze Star, an Army Commendation Medal and several other military medals and recognitions.
During his employment with the Bureau, Flores produced solid group sales and events economic impact for the Island and accelerated to the Business Development Director role, where he continued to excel as a department head and a member of the Bureau’s Senior Management team.
South Padre Island City Manager Susan Guthrie strongly supported the promotion and commented: “This position is an integral component of our efforts to improve the capacity of the CVB to fill key roles that support and grow the Island economy through increased numbers of visitors 12 months a year. Flores’ educational background and analytical skills clearly made him the right person for the position.”
As Director of Marketing Research and Analytics, Flores will play an active and integral role in the building of top-performing, database-driven, strategic marketing initiatives for sustaining and growing the essential economic impact of leisure travel, meetings, and conventions, and special events for South Padre Island’s visitor industry-centric economy. The growth of digital and social media marketing, and their fluid and evolving importance to the travel and tourism industry, has been the catalyst for the need to have a high-level professional that provides insightful data that would measure the effectiveness of improving destination marketing efforts for South Padre Island.
