McAllen- At a recent McAllen City Commission meeting, Mayor Jim Darling and the City Commission proclaimed May 19, 2016, as McAllen Strength in Unity Day. Strength in Unity is a program created by the State Bar of Texas through the Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) that uses videos and discussion panels to build relations between local communities and law enforcement.

The City of McAllen and TYLA will conduct Strength in Unity discussion panel, including McAllen Mayor Jim Darling, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez, Federal Public Defender Nadia Medrano, and other local attorneys and community leaders.

“It’s imperative to have an open dialogue between local government officials, law enforcement, and the communities they both serve,” said Mayor Jim Darling. “The work Texas Young Lawyers Association has undertaken to bring this topic to light should be commended.  It was an honor for the City of McAllen to be one of the first cities in Texas to proclaim its commitment and support to the Strength in Unity program.”
