EDINBURG, Texas – During routine testing, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday morning. He is presently conferring with his doctors to determine the prescribed course of treatment. He has had two rounds of the COVID vaccine as well as a booster shot.

This is the second time Judge Cortez has tested positive for the virus. He first tested positive on December 10, 2020. He has already begun isolating himself at home.

“I was feeling a little under the weather and a routine COVID test came back positive,” Judge Cortez said. “This is a reminder that everyone should get tested if they experience even mild symptoms.”
