EDINBURG, Texas – Multiple Federal and state agencies to launch public safety initiative on Falcon Lake in Zapata, Texas.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) components will work alongside Texas agencies to provide education, information, and safety to individuals visiting the lake during the month of March. DHS personnel are uniquely qualified to provide this service to the community because of the longstanding public safety and humanitarian measures displayed by the United States Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine Operations, and the United States Border Patrol.
The 2020 Falcon Lake Spring Safety Initiative incorporates DHS and Texas State Law Enforcement Agencies’ (LEAs) efforts to provide a safe environment for patrons of Falcon Lake at Falcon State Park. This initiative focuses on public safety and shows how DHS and Texas LEAs offer different capabilities, including emergency response, as it pertains to water safety and drowning prevention as part of their daily duties.
The JTF-W STC is committed to providing in-depth integration to help achieve the safety strategy of all the DHS components that will participate in this endeavor, as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Department of Homeland Security components are actively targeting transnational criminal organizations and their networks throughout the U.S., in a concerted unity of effort coordinated by Joint Task Force–West.
