Washington, D.C.— Congressmen Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15), and Filemon Vela (TX-34) announced Hidalgo County is eligible for federal funding to help rural communities continue their recovery from the effects of natural disasters.  The U.S. Department of Agriculture is making $150 million available across the United States through the Community Facilities Program.

“Rural communities in Hidalgo county are still recovering from extreme flooding in June,” said Congressman Cuellar. “It is critical that we help Hidalgo County obtain the necessary support for strong, long-term recovery. I would like to thank Congressmen Gonzalez and Vela for joining me in these recovery efforts. I would also like to thank local, state, and federal officials in their work in restoring our rural communities.”

“I thank the Administration and USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue for making this aid available for our rural communities who were affected by devastating flooding in the recent past,” said Congressman Vicente Gonzalez. “I encourage those in Hidalgo County who were affected by these natural disasters to take full advantage of these resources.”

“Many of our communities were greatly affected by flooding, but our rural communities typically have far less resources available to rebuild,” stated Congressman Vela.  “This USDA funding gives an alternate source outside of FEMA to assist them.  I encourage the rural communities in Hidalgo County, as well as, Cameron County and Jim Wells County to seek funding.”
