EDINBURG –Hidalgo County Commissioners Court approved $3.5 million in CARES Act funding to go towards the creation of the Hidalgo County CARES Small Business Grant Program designed to assist businesses with monies related to the cost of business interruption caused by the required closure related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This program was designed to offer financial aid to our small business community that took a hard hit during the economic crisis many experienced due to this pandemic,” said Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez.
The funding will provide over 1,000 small business grants for the program, at a maximum amount of $5,000 that will be disbursed to businesses with an annual net income of $100,000 or less. The grant will be administered by the County or through a selection of a third-party administrator; operating in conformance with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act federal guidelines.
Eligible businesses must be located in the unincorporated area of Hidalgo County, and must demonstrate that they have experienced a loss of income of at least 15% due to COVID-19 since March 2020.
Completed applications for grant funding will be considered on a first come, first serve basis. The County will announce when it is ready to accept applications.
“This is an emerging opportunity to help the business community recuperate from the financial challenges many have experienced during these unprecedented times,” said Cortez.
