PHARR, TX, October 11, 2017 – The Food Bank RGV, which feeds as many as 40,000 people per week, announced today that it was awarded a $15,000 Community Impact Grant from New York Life.

The grant will support Operation Kid Pack, which helps provide weekend and school holiday food packs for nearly 700 low-income school children at 15 distribution sites.

“We are grateful for New York Life’s commitment to the children of the Rio Grande Valley and Operation Kid Pack,” said DeAnne Economedes, Food Bank RGV Interim CEO & COO.  “New York Life helps our students stay healthy and prepared for school that otherwise wouldn’t have the food they need over the weekends and extended school holidays.”

“I feel very fortunate to once again receive the support of my company to help those in need in the community,” Gabriela Nunnery, Financial Services Professional, said.  Nunnery was key in connecting New York Life and the Food Bank RGV with her years of volunteering as an Empty Bowls Committee member.

“I’m proud to work for a company that encourages its agents and employees to devote their time, energy and talents to support the needs and priorities of their local community,” said Jimmy Rivera, Managing Partner, of the company’s RGV General Office. “We are pleased that our partnership will have a long-lasting impact on the Food Bank RGV and the population they serve.”

The Community Impact Grant program awards grants of up to $25,000 to local nonprofit organizations which are championed by New York Life agents and employees to serve the needs of their local communities. Since the program’s inception in 2008, 491 grants totaling nearly $6 million have been awarded to nonprofits across the country.
