EDINBURG, Texas – As COVID-19 cases continue to spike around the Rio Grande Valley, the RGV FC Toros have made the decision to play without fans in attendance for the Friday, July 17 reOpener against San Antonio FC. Although fans will not be able to attend in person, we encourage everyone to watch and cheer on the Toros by watching live, locally on Somos El Valle 5.2 and nationally on ESPN+ with kickoff set 8 p.m. CST.

The club’s decision to close its first game to fans was not taken lightly.  Though we are confident in the measures taken by the club and the facility, H-E-B Park, to keep players, staff, employees, and fans safe, we are connected to our community and believe our decision is in line with the pulse of the Rio Grande Valley.  From start-of-shift employee wellness checks and mandatory use of PPE, to socially distanced seating and enhanced cleaning protocols, we are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of everyone that enters the stadium.  As per the state of Texas, H-E-B Park can open to 50% of its capacity; however, we have made the decision to operate at only 25%, ensuring 6 feet of distance between every group of fans.

We want fans to know that we have taken this time to improve in every sense of the word—on the pitch, and off,” said Toros President Ron Patel. “Our new campaign for the restart of this season is called ‘The Comeback’ and it will show how everyone—from players, to coaches, to housekeeping, concessions…EVERYONE needed to bring the magic of a Toros Game—has been preparing for our return.  When we DO welcome fans back to H-E-B Park, it will be because we are confident we can deliver what they deserve, which is top-quality soccer action in a fun, safe, and secure environment.”

RGV FC will continue to monitor the situation and remain in constant communication with local and state health officials in order to determine future viability to host fans at home matches, and will provide updates as they become available.
