EDINBURG –Edinburg Rotary Club partnered with Rise Against Hunger to package more than 14,000 meals to be distributed to children and families worldwide. The event took place on Saturday, June 19, at the Edinburg Activity Center, located at 123 E. Palm Dr. in Edinburg.

Approximately 80 volunteers packaged the meals, including rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and vitamin packets. The packaged meals will be distributed by Rise Against Hunger, an international humanitarian organization, that is growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives, and responding to emergencies.

According to the organization, more than 40 percent of its meals are distributed to school feeding programs worldwide. Those meals encourage school attendance and help put these children and their families on a path out of poverty.

With locations across the U.S. and five international offices, Rise Against Hunger provides immediate nourishment for those facing hunger today and implements sustainable solutions that will lift entire communities for years to come. The organization has facilitated volunteer meal packaging of more than 540 million meals to be distributed to countries around the world.
