Edinburg Reminds Residents City Still Under Mandatory Water Conservation Plan

Edinburg, Texas- With summer upon us and Texas still under a severe drought, The City of Edinburg is asking residents to be mindful of their water usage.

Edinburg is currently under Stage 2 of the City’s Water Conservation Plan which calls for mandatory compliance.

Under Stage 2:

  • Addresses that end in odd numbers can water on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s
  • Addresses that end in even numbers can water on Thursday’s and Sunday’s

Watering is only allowed between 12 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. Meanwhile, the following actions are prohibited:

  • Allowing water to run off into a gutter, ditch or drain.
  • Washing sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, patios and other paved areas.
  • Failure to repair a controllable leak.
  • Washing of vehicles except on designated watering days and then only between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m.
  • Refilling or adding of water to residential swimming pools except on designated watering days between the hours of 8 p.m. and 10 a.m.
  • Operating ornamental fountains or other similar structures except for those that utilize a recycling system

Inspectors are strictly enforcing all water conservation guidelines and will administer citations and fines to those who fail to comply. Failure to comply could result in one of the following offenses:

1st offense – oral warning and education process

2nd offense – written warning & educational process

3rd offense – citation to municipal court for a fine of up to $200 per violation; mandatory educational program and possible disconnection that will continue until fines are paid and the educational process is completed.

According to the Texas Water Development Board, the capacity is 20 percentage points less than normal for this time of year in Texas reservoirs.
