Texas Border Business
AUSTIN – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) joined Fox News Radio’s The Brian Kilmeade Show this morning to discuss the package bombs, approach to governing in Texas, and the migrant caravan headed towards the U.S. border with Mexico. Excerpts from his interview are below.
On Package Bombs Being Mailed to Public Figures:
“Obviously violence is never acceptable in public discourse… The idea that somebody would send an explosive device to somebody is something that needs to be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
On the Approach to Governing in Texas:
“We believe in less regulation, low taxes, and more freedom, and it shows in terms of our economy. And you’re right, people have been voting with their feet, coming from high-tax places like California to Texas. But I consider these refugees from socialism.”
On the Migrant Caravan:
“Well, I think there’s a big and important difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration. We’re the most welcoming country in the world when it comes to legal immigration, but we expect people to follow the rules and to get in line and to do it the right way. That’s the way we’ve honored immigrants historically in this country: by welcoming them to legal immigration in the United States.”
“We all know that this is a vulnerability, that this pipeline up from Central America that’s controlled in Mexico mainly by the cartels, and they transmit not only immigrants but also drugs and other contraband, too. It’s time for a wake-up call, and this may be just enough to try to wake up the American people to exactly what’s happening and who’s controlling this.
So the President’s committed to stopping it. I was with him on Monday night in Houston, and he made that very clear, and I applaud that and support it.”
