To admire a creation by Clarissa A. Meyers in person is to catch a glimpse of the soul and sentiment that is faithfully reflected in her artwork. With a visionary inspiration, Meyers seizes moments in time as materials to devote to her work and her creative process. Each one-of-a-kind piece by Meyers encompasses her everlasting faith and contemplation for detail.

A Rio Grande Valley native, Meyers has been committed to her artwork for over 30 years. Initially beginning with smaller pieces like bible markers and bible stands, she soon moved on to greater and larger works. With inspiration drawn from the masters of the Italian Renaissance and an enlightened taste for European art history, she recreates and breathes new life into classic works.

After studying the work of Renaissance artists and then traveling throughout Europe to witness the pieces in person, she experienced her own, personal renaissance.

“I was amazed by their art, their architecture and the experience of walking through these great cathedrals. But I simply wished there was more light,” she said.

In her search for a way to convey and communicate her experiences and faith through her work in a more powerful way, Meyers found the mementos that would color her creations. While many artists use brushes and paints to create artwork, Clarissa Meyers creates with moments of divine faith captured by tokens of her travels.

In her recreation of Sandro Botticelli’s Madonna of the Book, Meyers uses olive twigs blessed on Palm Sunday in Corato, Italy in the same church where Luisa Piccaretta “The Little Daughter of Divine Will” is entombed today. In the same artwork, Meyers replaces the crown of thorns worn by Jesus on his left wrist with delicate, blessed rose pedals.

Along with these significant mementos, Meyers also employs only the finest materials to convey her vision. Most of her pieces are made with delicate gold leaf, gold thread, fine brocade fabrics, semi-precious stones, Swarovski crystals, and crystals from Austria and the Czech Republic.

Every year the artist donates a piece to contribute back to her community in the Rio Grande Valley. Currently, her works can be found on display and sale exclusively at Nora Design Showroom in McAllen, Texas. Currently, the artist works out of her studio in McAllen, TX and is creating more work.
