San Juan, Texas – City of San Juan officials celebrated the career of Police Sergeant Rolando Garcia during a special called meeting on Friday, June 7, 2019. During the meeting, Sgt. Garcia was recognized with a proclamation honoring his 25 years of dedicated service, commitment, and leadership to the San Juan Police Department, the citizens, and the city.

Sgt. Garcia, a San Juan native,  was hired by the San Juan Police Department on August 15, 1993, as a Telecommunications Officer where he served for three years. After completion of the Police Academy and being Commissioned as a Peace Officer in the City of San Juan, Sgt. Garcia went on to serve an illustrious 22-year career with the San Juan Police Department, moving up the ranks throughout the years.

“I want to thank you, Sgt. Garcia for your dedicated service to our community, said Mayor Mario Garza during the recognition. “This line of work is hard, and being a law enforcement officer takes a toll not only on officers but their families as well,” added Garza.

“I want to thank the Garcia family for allowing Sgt. Garcia to serve our San Juan family for 25 years and for supporting him all these years,” Garza continued. “From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of our city and citizens, we thank you for your service, dedication, commitment, and exemplary professionalism,” Garza said.

Family, friends, colleagues, and citizens attended the special meeting and joined in recognizing Sgt. Garcia.

“I want to thank everyone for supporting me and joining me today,” said Garcia. I want to thank the city and administration for always supporting the police department, our citizens, all our city departments, and especially my family and my police family for your constant support and encouragement,” he continued. “I have been blessed to work with one of the best police departments in our region and I look forward to continuing its legacy,” Garcia added.

Sgt. Garcia will now don a new uniform as he prepares to take on the role as the first-ever Chief of Police for the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District. The City of San Juan wishes him the best and is proud to see him continue to serve the community.
