City of McAllen Events Continue to be Lauded – McAllen Holiday Parade, Games of Texas awarded at Texas events industry conference

The City of McAllen continues to be recognized for the quality of its events, walking away with 16 awards – 12 of which were first place – as well as the coveted Best Overall award for the McAllen Holiday Parade at this past weekend’s Texas Association of Fairs and Events annual conference.

“The McAllen Holiday Parade continues to be recognized for excellence in its creativity in promotion, publicity and awareness,” said City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E.  “I am extremely proud of the team for their effort to put together an event of this caliber that is not only recognized by its peers in the respective entertainment industry, but also and more importantly, that is enjoyed by the entire Rio Grande Valley and beyond.”

The McAllen Holiday Parade competed in the budget category of $250,000 – $750,000 of the TAF&E Ray Cammack Shows Awards of Excellence for Marketing and Communications, competing against such events as the East Texas State Fair from Tyler, Texas and Grapefest in Grapevine, Texas.  Other big winners included the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo, and the State Fair of Texas.

The McAllen Holiday Parade received the following first place awards:

  1. Best Newspaper Ad – Color
  2. Best Promotional Poster
  3. Best Miscellaneous Single Page Material
  4. Best Newspaper Insert/Supplement
  5. Best Media Press Kit
  6. Best T.V. Promotion
  7. Best T.V. News Segment
  8. Best Social Media Promotion
  9. Best Miscellaneous Multi-Page Materials
  10. Best Sponsorship Program
  11. Best Follow-Up Sponsorship Program

The McAllen Holiday Parade also received the following second place awards:

  1. Best Pin or Medal
  2. Best Specialty Video
  3. Best Photograph Series

The McAllen Holiday Parade was also awarded Best Overall in its category.

Also receiving recognition was the Games of Texas, earning first place in Best Promotional Advertising-Outdoor.

“The McAllen Holiday Parade is competing against established events that have been in the industry for decades,” said Assistant City Manager Joe Vera.  “The fact that the parade has been recognized at such a high level is important for the event sponsors as this means that they are associating with a quality entertainment event.”

TAF&E exists to help promote the value and importance of fairs, festivals and special events by being an advocate and supporter to our members, who have the same desire to improve their event.

The membership of TAF&E is made up of events and organizations from across the state and from neighboring states as well. It includes fairs and festivals of all sizes, including community, county, district, regional and state-wide events.
